*TITLE: BELIEVER’S SELFLESSNESS IS DEMANDED*

*KEY TEXT: Philippians 2:4 KJV: “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”*

*Selflessness is a virtue often extolled in every day life of those who want to make a positive impact in their generation. In the body of Christ, it is central to the teachings of Jesus Christ. As stated in Matthew 16:24, "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." Selflessness is they key to following Jesus Christ faithfully. PHILIPPIANS 2:4*

*The concept of selflessness entails putting the needs of others before one's own desires. Philippians 2:3-4 emphasis this idea: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others." Selflessness means putting God ahead of one's personal desire. 1 PETER 3:8*

*Selflessness involves sacrificing personal gain for the greater good. It is giving up personal interest for the benefit of another person, not being selfish for personal interest, as exemplified in John 15:13: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Jesus Christ is a perfect example of a selfless lifestyle. JOHN 15:12*

*PRAYER: O Lord my God, please deliver me from the spirit of selfishness and grant me the grace to be selfless in all I do henceforth, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.*

*REFLECTION: 1 Peter 3:8 KJV: "Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous."*
