TITLE: PRIDE, A CRUEL ENEMY OF MAN (PART 2)

KEY TEXT: Isaiah 13:11 KJV: “And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.”

Proverbs 11:2 declares, "When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom." This verse highlights the correlation between pride and shame, contrasting it with the wisdom found in humility. It serves as a reminder that true wisdom flourishes in the soil of humility, not in the barren wasteland of pride. Proverbs 16:5

In Psalm 10:4, the consequences of pride are depicted vividly: "The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts." This verse portrays how pride can blind us to the presence of God, rendering us incapable of seeking His guidance and mercy, and by doing so, making one to act foolishly and endanger his or her soul, wasting away unknowingly. Galatians 6:7

We are warned in Proverbs 29:23 that a man's pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. This verse contrasts the eventual downfall of the proud with the uplifting support granted to the humble. It reaffirms the timeless truth that humility, not pride, is the foundation of true honor. Proverbs 8:13

PRAYER: O Lord, my God, please have mercy on me, in any way I have allowed pride to take over my heart. Please save me from the shame that pride brings to its victims, in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: 1 Samuel 2:3 KJV: “Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.”
