TITLE: FINISHING YOUR HEAVENLY GOAL (PART 1)

KEY TEXT: Philippians 3:14 KJV: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

INTRO TO OUR GOAL OF HEAVEN: As a person, you can have a goal in mind that you want to achieve. However, the ultimate priority that God has given to all humanity is the goal of making it to Heaven. This goal is inherent in every person born of a woman, yet many have unsuccessfully attempted to achieve it. In order to reach our goal of Heaven, the first thing to bear in mind is that we must keep our eyes and attention fixed on it. Anything that diverts even 1% of our focus will detract 100% from our goal. Philippians 3:12-14

PAUL’S EXAMPLE: Paul had a vision and a goal ahead of him, and in the key text, he made us understand he kept his eyes on that goal. Paul says, “I press towards the mark…”. Whenever challenges arise, we must learn to press on. The analogy of a race illustrates that we are constantly striving toward our goal. When a runner begins the race, they do not carry unnecessary baggage or clothing, as the excess weight would slow them down. They do not constantly look behind them, for doing so would prevent them from seeing the dangers ahead.  1 John 2:17

GO ALL THE WAY: So, first and foremost, we must stay focused, and secondly, we must press on. The sure path to victory and the promised ending in God is to fight relentlessly until the end. The sure path to peace and tranquility in God’s Kingdom is to finish the race completely. The trophy of Heaven is not given to quitters or those who stop even 99 percent of the way. It is awarded only to those who have run the entire race, who say, "I will hold onto God, even if He decides not to fulfill that thing in my life. I will not accuse God." 2 Timothy 4:7

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me fix my gaze on you, so that I can run this race in perfection to at last reach the goal of Heaven, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Luke 9:62 KJV: “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
