TITLE: HUNGER AND THIRST

KEY TEXT: Matthew 5:6 KJV: “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

We are in a world full of hunger and thirst. Almost everyone is looking for what to eat and drink to satisfy themselves, and a lot of people have gone as far as killing their fellow human beings to satisfy their hunger and thirst for their needs. All you see in most churches nowadays are believers who are hungry and desperately looking for a miracle to satisfy their hunger. Believers of today are ready to do anything to take their burden of hunger and thirst away, not minding how the miracle comes nor the consequences of getting anything from the devil. John 4:14

But the question is: What is the hunger all about? Our Lord Jesus Christ told us the only reasonable hunger that heaven recognises is the hunger and thirst after righteousness. Anyone who hungers and thirsts after such is blessed already while waiting for his or her needs to be satisfied. It's unfortunate that not so many care if their souls are dying of spiritual hunger, as long as their perishable hunger is satisfied. Deuteronomy 8:3

It is clearly stated in the word of God that we should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and every other thing that the people of the world, including the unbelieving believers are running after, would be yours. My beloved in Christ, whatever you are running after that is taking the place of God in your heart is supposed to be an addition. Seek holiness and righteousness, blessings will seek you. Matthew 6:33

PRAYER: O Lord, my God, please have mercy on me for seeking after the irrelevant. I repent of my foolishness. Grant me the grace to hunger and thirst for holiness and righteousness, in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: John 6:35 KJV: “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
