TITLE: THE NECESSITY OF DAILY SELF-EXAMINATION

KEY TEXT: 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

INTRODUCTION: Self-examination is essential for all believers in Christ in this precarious race to Heaven. We must scrutinize ourselves and ask pertinent questions: What is my spiritual condition? Am I fervent or lukewarm in my devotion to God? Do I perceive any spiritual decline within me? What is the state of my soul? Am I aligning with God's desires for me spiritually? How do I treat my brothers and sisters in the faith? Are there aspects of myself that I have neglected or weaknesses that undermine my faith and fellowship with God and fellow believers? 1 Corinthians 1:10

EXAMINE YOUR HEART: We need to probe our hearts. How do we react when encountering a brother or sister? What sentiments do our hearts express? It is imperative to assess if we harbor any grievances against others and seek resolution. Rather than relying on human standards, we should examine ourselves guided by the Holy Spirit and the infallible Word of God. We must discern whether our actions align with our Christian principles. We ought to implore God to reveal areas that need improvement and our standing with Him. It is essential to confront our true selves, forsaking self-deception and hypocrisy, and honestly evaluate ourselves. James 1:22-25

WATCH OUT FOR ACCUSATIONS: Reflect on the sins you renounced upon embracing Christ. Check if you are regressing into former transgressions or adopting worldly attitudes (1 John 2:15-17). Now that there is still time to examine ourselves, let us do it now, now that we are alive and have the grace to make amends, because a time is coming where it will surely be too late, and Satan stands ready to expose our concealed wickedness on people’s last days. Hence, it is crucial to identify and address any sins or subtle compromises that could obstruct our path to Heaven, both seen and unseen. Acts 24:16

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, reveal to me the areas of my life that fall short of Your holy standards. Retrace my steps back to You from any path of righteousness I have knowingly or unknowingly wandered away from, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
