TITLE: THE VAIN DESIRE OF MAN

TUE 20 SEPT 2022

KEY TEXT: “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitted on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on the things on the earth” (Colossians 3:1-2 KJV).

Looking at the nature of the world we are living in today and the way everyone is fighting to get hold of anything the world could offer, it is amazing if a census was to be conducted to know the desires of the people, one would find out that ninety-nine per cent of the world's population, believers inclusive, would wish for things that have no eternal value. Only a very few would say they desire to do the will of God in holiness and to meet with the Lord, Jesus Christ, in Heaven. Many Christians will not even mention living for God, going to Heaven and making it in the rapture as their utmost priority. So sad that this is the world of today, where the desires of men are vain and centred only around this world and its passing away riches. Matthew 24:2 KJV

THE THINGS YOU LIVE AND DIE FOR WON’T FOLLOW YOU: The Bible has already forewarned us about the laying of treasures in this world. It said that where one's treasure is, there the desires of his or her heart will be. One can only live and die for what he or she desires. Today, many are living and dying for things that will only send their souls to hellfire. Those who live for their wealth, die by it; you can only die for what you love. So many great men and women die wretchedly without Christ in their life after having pledged their allegiance to their possessions. What about you? Do not let the love of the things of this world send you to an everlasting place of unbearable pain and torment. Matthew 6:19-21 KJV

EVERYTHING SHALL PASS AWAY: The world and everything in it including you shall pass away, with the exception of the Word of God. The same Word of God you do not want to hear now will stand to judge you after you must have passed away from this world that you love so much into eternity. Then you will realise how important the Word of life you neglected, now standing right before you to judge you against the worthless things you pursued while on earth. Beloved, you have been warned to seek first the Kingdom of God, but you are busy seeking other things first. Repent now that you have the time and seek the righteousness and holiness of God before it is too late. Matthew 6:33 KJV

PRAYER: O Lord, please help me to desire the Word of life for the saving of my soul which was the reason you died on the cross of Calvary, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”(Mark 8:36-37 KJV).
