TITLE: COURAGE DEMYSTIFIED

KEY TEXT: 1 Corinthians 16:13 KJV: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”

Courage is often misunderstood as the absence of fear, but in reality, it is the strength to act in spite of fear. As it is written, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10). Courage is not about being fearless; it is about acknowledging fear and choosing to move forward anyway. As David declared in the Psalms: “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3).

It is the quiet voice at the end of the day that says, "I will try again tomorrow," echoing the truth that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Whether it is standing up for what is right, even when it is unpopular, or pursuing your dreams despite the risk of failure, courage is what makes growth and progress possible. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

True courage requires vulnerability. It takes courage to admit when we do not have all the answers, to be open about our weaknesses, and to let others see who we really are. “... My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9). This vulnerability is often seen as a weakness, but it is one of the greatest sources of strength. 1 CORINTHIANS 6:7

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, please help me to always depend on Your strength in times of weakness and challenges, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV: “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
