TITLE: PRIDE, A CRUEL ENEMY OF MAN (PART 1)

KEY TEXT: Proverbs 29:23 KJV: “A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.”

Pride, often depicted as a formidable foe in both ancient texts and contemporary wisdom, is a theme deeply ingrained in the Word of God. In Proverbs 16:18, it is written, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." This verse warns us of the perilous path pride can lead us down, emphasizing the inevitable downfall awaiting those who allow arrogance to cloud their judgment. Galatians 6:3

Moreover, in James 4:6, we are reminded that "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." This Scripture underscores the divine disdain for pride and the divine favor bestowed upon those who exhibit humility. It serves as a humbling reminder that pride distances us from God's grace, while humility draws us closer to His blessings. Proverbs 29:23

In Luke 14:11, Jesus Himself teaches, "For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted." This profound statement echoes the sentiment found throughout Scripture that pride leads to downfall, while humility paves the way for exaltation. Proverbs 16:5

PRAYER: O Lord, my God, deliver me from the spirit of pride and free me from its deadly chains, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Proverbs 11:2 KJV: “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.”
