TITLE: REGENERATED (PART 2)

KEY TEXT: John 3:3 - "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

The reason some Christians think that regeneration occurs by faith is because they have confused regeneration with "salvation" in general, and with "justification" in particular. When the word "salvation" is applied to the sinner, it is a general term that implies a number of things, such as the items discussed in this chapter. In justification, God confers upon the elect the righteousness merited by Christ. The Bible teaches that we are justified by faith, and not that we are regenerated by faith. Confusion results when one considers justification and regeneration as both, referring to "salvation" in the same sense. EZEKIEL 36:26

Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again" (John 3:3). The word "see" here refers to the ability to understand, or "see into." Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:4, "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ." If they cannot "see" the gospel, they cannot accept it, which in turn makes it impossible for them to be saved. Titus 3:5

Matthew 13:15 makes a similar point: "For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them."

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to be born of God and of the spirit. O Lord, let my flesh desire fire and Your spirit guide me unto righteousness, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Mark 4:12 KJV: "That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them."
