TITLE: OUR CHOICES DETERMINE OUR DESTINIES (PART 1)

KEY TEXT: Genesis 13:10 KJV, “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.”

Choices often result in eternally significant consequences; therefore, it is advisable that we make our choices in line with God’s principles. From the key text, Abraham’s herdsmen quarreled with Lot’s, and Abraham gave Lot the choice to go wherever he pleased in order to avoid strife. Lot unfortunately used carnality to choose his destination, since he saw that the land was well watered, and as a person who owned many flocks, he thought he would have sufficient land to feed his flock. Luke 15:11-12 KJV

WRONG CHOICES ATTRACT DAMNABLE CONSEQUENCES: It is unfortunate that the choice Lot made was the beginning of his steady, spiritual decline, because he moved his tent toward Sodom, a city known for abominable acts. Lot lost his wife there and narrowly escaped himself when the judgment of God fell upon Sodom and Gomorrah. His daughters also made him commit abomination with them. All this was as a result of his choice to live in Sodom. Genesis 13:12-13 KJV

SEEK GOD’S COUNSEL WHEN CHOOSING: Whatever choice we make should be aligned with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in accordance with the Word of God. Do you acknowledge God as the Potter and yourself as the clay when making choices, or are you giving God demands that unless He performs one thing or the other, you will not serve Him? The choice is entirely yours, because God will not force you to follow Him. Proverbs 14:12 KJV

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, please forgive me for all the wrong choices I have made in my life. Please guide me by your Spirit to make choices that will help me fulfill my destiny and have eternal rest in the end, in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen. 

REFLECTION: “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.” (Proverbs 14:14 KJV).
