TITLE: A CONTRITE AND HUMBLE SPIRIT IS DEMANDED

KEY TEXT: Isaiah 57:15 KJV: “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones”

What is a contrite heart? It is that heart which natural pride, selfishness, self-sufficiency, and arrogance have been completely crushed. It is the heart in which a divine surgical operation has been carried out, and anything that is not of God flushed out from it. For each of us to succeed in this race to heaven and receive a commendation by Jesus Christ on the last day, a contrite and humble spirit is demanded of us. Why? Because it is difficult to offer a faithful service to God and to mankind if you are not humble in spirit. Psalm 34:2

God is saying that the people He regards as the apple of His eyes and recipients of His favour, are those who are of a contrite spirit. They are the ones who tremble at His word; those who ask themselves whether God is happy with what they are doing or not. They are those children who always weigh their intentions and actions with the Word of God. Isaiah 66:1-2

Until we allow our Maker to come in and have His way through a divine surgical operation to remove anything that is making us dirty, we cannot become the apple of His eyes. The sacrifices of God are of a broken spirit. Contrition of the heart, humility and having the real fear of God, is what God cherishes most. If you are humble in spirit before God, all your possessions will not matter to you. You will worship God in church without caring what others are thinking of you. 2 Samuel 6:16-23

PRAYER: Almighty Father, carry out the divine surgical operation in my heart to remove anything conflicting with your plans and purposes in my life, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Proverbs 8:13 KJV: “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
