*TITLE: A CONTRITE AND HUMBLE SPIRIT IS DEMANDED (PART 2)*

*KEY TEXT: Proverbs 29:23 KJV: “A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.”*

*The humble in spirit will remember how far the Lord brought them from and will not rub shoulders with God. Jesus Christ mentioned humbleness of spirit, as a blessing to a true child of God in Matthew 5:4, saying,  “Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.” He was talking about the one with a humble spirit who mourns and grieves because of their sins, realizing how their pride and selfishness made them disobey the ordinances of God. 2 Chronicles 12:6-7*

*Anyone that is of a contrite heart does not abuse or take the forgiveness of God for granted. Instead, they repent of their wicked ways. Without contrition and humbleness of heart, we will be like the proud Pharisees, going through the emotions of religion, yet harboring all sorts of iniquity. Iniquity does not end in fornication, or adultery; there is also malice, grudges, arrogance, hypocrisy, rumormongering, among others. A pharisee will look at some sins less than others, and mark themselves more righteous. Luke 18:11*

*Every heavenly-bound child of God should ask God to break their hearts, and ask God to create them to what He created them to be. Arrogance will make you depend on yourself rather than God. The vibrant and proud prayer of the pharisee could not attract God's attention. What was accepted before God, was the humble cry of a repented sinner who received forgiveness. Two people needed God's mercy, but only one was given because of his contrite and humble spirit. Luke 18:14*

*PRAYER: Almighty Father, take away from me, every self-justification that will land me in hellfire, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.*

*REFLECTION: 2 Chronicles 12:12 KJV: “And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.”*
