TITLE: NOTHING BUT VANITY

KEY TEXT: “As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand“ (Ecclesiastes 5:15 KJV).

Everything in this world is nothing but vanity. No matter how rich someone is, his or her riches are nothing. A person who owns a lot of houses cannot sleep in all of them at once, nor can he or she drive multiple cars at the same time. No matter how much a person has, the things of this world do not offer complete fulfillment. Ephesians 5:18 KJV

A lot of people who are rich tend to do foolish things. One of those foolish things is that they say, “There is no God.” They see no need to serve God when they think they have everything they need. Riches can blind people, including believers, to God’s importance in their lives. Psalm 14:1 KJV

The afterlife is what really matters after one leaves this world of vanity behind. God will not care about one’s earthly accomplishments. If he or she did not do God’s will while on earth, there would be no place for him or her in God’s Kingdom. The devil would be happy that such a person wasted his or her time on earth chasing the wind. Colossians 3:2 KJV
 
PRAYER: O Lord, please help me set my affection on the things above and not on the things beneath, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen. 

REFLECTION: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him“ (1 John 2:15 KJV).
