TITLE: SERVING GOD WITHOUT OFFENSE IS DEMANDED

KEY TEXT: “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me” (Matthew 11:6 KJV).

Following Jesus Christ and professing love to Him when things are going well is not a big deal. That is the state of most Christians. They are working in their church and are proud to be Christians because their businesses, jobs, marriages, and everything else is going on fine as they desire it to be. They are in love with the Church and with Christ, as long as things remain the way they want it to be. The same Jesus Christ and the Church they love so much soon become their worst enemy the moment things do not seem to go the way they wish. To them, trials and temptations are no-go areas. They are for Jesus Christ as long as they are having all the temporary blessings at their disposal. It is abnormal before the eyes of natural men for Jesus Christ, whom John the Baptist had announced his ministry to the people, to have heard he was in prison and would not come to take him out of the prison with his authority. lt would seem as if the Lamb of God, who took away the sin of the world, according to His proclamation about Jesus Christ, failed to show up as expected. 2 Corinthians 6:3 KJV 

HOW FAR CAN YOU TRUST JESUS PERSONALLY? Asking others to join one in prayer is not a bad idea. It should not be done in a way that you have given up your trust in Him, because you now believe that someone has to help you consult God like a native doctor or challenge God of His power on your behalf. Just as John the Baptist did, many believers have made man their mouthpiece to God. Many depend on bishops, pastors, apostles, etc., as intermediaries. Some think Jesus Christ cannot hear them, since they have waited for so long without an answer. So, they have to go through men to Him. It is sad but that is the case. God never changes. He does what He will to the glory of His name, irrespective of one’s work or closeness to Him. Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV 

STOP PICKING OFFENSE WITH GOD: Christians are guilty of getting offended by God easily. The first thing most Christians do when anything negative happens is to stop their work for God. They can never stop going to their secular jobs or doing other things, but they would stop going to church when anything happens to them. Jesus Christ clearly said that blessed are those who are not offended in Him. It could also mean that cursed are those who get offended in Him. Are you the type that gets offended quickly by God when things go wrong with you? You must repent. Our work for God does not add to the glory of God or subtract from it. Let us not take our work with God to be so important to God. With or without us, God is forever God. We must avoid getting offended and take our walk with Him and work for Him as an unmerited privilege. Luke 9:22 KJV 

PRAYER: O Lord, grant me the grace to follow you without offenses, no matter the situation, so that I may receive the crown of glory at the end, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: “Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12 KJV).
