TITLE: STOP CHALLENGING GOD WITH YOUR WORK

KEY TEXT: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV).

Beloved of God, the key text of today's message says that God so much loved us that He gave us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. You, the reader, and I, the writer of the message, can agree that we are not in the picture of man's redemption. It is an unmerited privilege to work for this great and mighty God. Nothing else qualifies us to do anything for and with God but mercy. The love of God is what drew us to Him. Our acclaimed work of righteousness would rather push us far from God. We are saved, drawn near to God, and allowed to work for God by mercy, the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost, which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Titus 3:5-6 KJV 

DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR WORK IS VALID?: Why are you conditioning God when you do not even know if your work for Him is pleasing in His sight? Some people complain or challenge God by saying, “God, can you not see I am always the first person to come to service?”, “God, I will not go for evangelism anymore if you do not give me a spouse within this length of time,” “God, I have been married for 20 years and childless. I will stop singing, paying tithes, etc., if you do not give me a child,” “God, I have rejected many things for your sake and single-handedly built a church.” Who are we to condition God with our dirty works? Can you die for anyone? We should be quiet and look unto what Christ has done for us on the cross if we cannot die to save ourselves. It is written: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 KJV 

LET CHRIST PRESENT TO US WHAT HE DID FOR US: Take the time to meditate on this scripture: “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way,and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all...” (Isaiah 53:3-12 KJV). Child of God, can you see that Christ is the only one who has the right to present you and I before God? Many so-called believers have dropped their filthy work that they were doing in the house of God because of one unfounded reason or the other. I will advise that we rather ask God for mercy, even as we are doing anything in His house than challenging Him with what we are doing. It is written: “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6 KJV). All our work and righteousness is like a filthy rag before God. Isaiah 64:6 KJV

PRAYER: O Lord, my God, I am very sorry for ever presenting my work before you or conditioning you with my work. Please forgive me and give me the grace to go and sin no more, in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen. 

REFLECTION: “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away” (Isaiah 64:6 KJV).
