TITLE: CHRIST’S PAYMENT OF OUR BILL OF SIN

KEY TEXT: John 19:30 KJV: "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

HE PAID THE BILL: The bill we owe is our spiritual debt to God due to sin. Sin places a heavy burden on our relationship with Him, a debt we could never repay. Every act of rebellion deepens this debt, and the consequence is eternal suffering in hell. This weighty bill, hanging over us, represents the judgment we face, a debt too costly for us to clear on our own. As Psalm 51:1-4 expresses, David understood the gravity of sin and its effect on his relationship with God. He pleaded for mercy, recognizing that only God's lovingkindness could cleanse him of his transgressions. Psalm 51:1-4

BURDEN OF SIN: As believers, we often reflect on the weight of sin and the spiritual debt we owe. Without feeling the burden of our wrongdoing, our spiritual conscience becomes dull. Yet, through Jesus Christ, that debt has been paid in full. On the cross, He declared, "It is finished" (John 19:30), signifying the completion of His redemptive work. By shedding His blood, He paid the ultimate price for our sins, reconciling us to God. Jesus became the perfect sacrifice, covering the cost that no amount of good works or religious deeds could ever satisfy. John 19:30

THE ALTAR CALL: This spiritual debt is not something we could have ever paid off by ourselves. Scripture makes it clear that no one, not even the most righteous among us, could redeem another's soul (Psalm 49:7-9). Our works, no matter how noble, fall short. But through Jesus, God provided the payment for our sins. As Philemon 1:17-19 illustrates, just as Paul offered to pay the debt owed by Onesimus, Jesus took on our debt, transferring the punishment to His account. Through His sacrifice, we are forgiven, freed from the burden of sin, and restored in our relationship with God. Are you in the swamp of sin? Call upon Christ now because he Has redeemed you. Give your life to Jesus today. Philemon 1:17-19

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I come to You today and dedicate my life to You. Transform my heart through Your redemptive power and make all things new in me, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Psalms 49:7-9 KJV: “None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: 8. For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) 9. That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.”
