TITLE: THE CONCEPT OF RESTITUTION (PART 2 )

KEY TEXT: Micah 6:8 KJV: "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God."

Restitution is closely tied to justice, one of God's fundamental attributes. Proverbs 21:3 says, "To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." This scripture reminds us that God values justice, which includes the restoration of what was wrongfully taken. Restitution is a tangible expression of justice, ensuring that wrongs are righted and relationships are restored in a way that honors God's righteousness. PSALMS 37:27

Furthermore, the concept of restitution extends beyond material possessions. It encompasses any form of harm or injury caused to others. In Numbers 5:7, it is written, "Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed." This shows that restitution also involves seeking to heal the damage done, whether emotional, financial, or relational. ZECHARIAH 7:9

Restitution is also an important aspect of living a life that pleases God. Ezekiel 33:15 states, "If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die." This verse illustrates that restitution, combined with righteous living, leads to spiritual life and favor with God. It is not just about correcting past wrongs but also about aligning one’s life with God’s commandments. JOHN 8:29

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me in any way I have taken anything from anyone forcefully or craftily. I repent today and I ask for the grace to do the corresponding restitution without delay, in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: LUKE 19:8 KJV: "And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold."
