TITLE: THE COST OF FOLLOWING CHRIST (PART 5)

KEY TEXT: ROMANS 8:11 KJV, “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

No matter what a believer is going through, he or she must not drop the cross. Anyone who became born again because he or she heard that Jesus would bless him or her with earthly blessings is not really carrying a cross, but is only laboring temporarily. ISAIAH 29:13 KJV

Ask yourself this: Why are you serving God? Is it because you need a miracle that you can enjoy temporarily on earth and then leave it for all of eternity? That is why God has nothing to do with complainers. He hates when people complain about things. But when one truly follows Christ, he or she does not endure but enjoys it, no matter the circumstances. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:19, NUMBERS 11:1 KJV

When most professing Christians aim for something and do not get it, they quickly abandon their cross. Such people are not following Christ, but their selfish, perishable needs. They are basically telling God to pay them with whatever they are looking for, as they are working for Him. I call them “pay-as-you-go” Christians. Many who had this mentality are out of the race today. You can hardly see Christians today who will burn for the Lord for two to five years without going back. Some Christians only burn for a few weeks or few months and cool off. MATTHEW 15:8 KJV


PRAYER: O Lord, my God,  please, grant me sufficient grace to follow you to the end, no matter what I would need to go through because of my decision to follow you, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen. 

REFLECTION: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (HEBREWS 13:5 KJV).
