TITLE: THE COST OF FOLLOWING CHRIST

KEY TEXT: MATTHEW 16:24 KJV: "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."

It is not easy for the flesh to accept the cost of following Christ, because there is a high price to pay. Before anyone should follow Christ, he or she must make up his or her mind about it. It is not a decision that one could just wake up one day and jump into. If someone makes the decision to follow Christ without knowing what he or she is getting into, then there is a tendency to leave. LUKE 9:62 KJV

Not everyone gets born again because he or she wants to follow Christ. Some people become born again because of what they need, and after getting what they were looking for, they go back to the world (their old lives). This is not the true meaning of being born again. JOHN 6:26 KJV

Before one could say that he or she is a born-again Christian, he or she must be ready to pay the price by giving up things. We should know that Christ paid the price for us to live as born-again children of God. LUKE 14:26-27 KJV

PRAYER: O Lord, my God, please have mercy on me if I have rushed into becoming a Christian without making a deliberate decision to carry the cross and follow you, no matter what happens. I repent and have decided to live for you and follow you genuinely from now on, in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen. 

REFLECTION: "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" (LUKE 9:23 KJV).
