TITLE: FORGIVENESS FROM THE HEART

KEY TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:32 KJV: “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”

FORGIVENESS DEFINED: Forgiveness in the Bible is a "release" or a "dismissal" of something. Biblical forgiveness is the process of forgiving someone or being forgiven, as illustrated in the Bible. Forgiveness itself is defined as the letting go of sin. In the Bible, this includes forgiving everyone, every time, for everything. God has forgiven us our sins, and we also have to forgive others of their trespasses. Let go of any hurt anyone may have caused you. Matthew 18:35

FRUITS OF UNFORGIVENESS: Refusing to forgive a person demonstrates resentment, bitterness, and anger, none of which are the traits of a true, holy, or heavenly-minded child of God. God promises that when we come to Him confessing our sin and asking for forgiveness, He freely grants it for the sake of Christ. Likewise, the forgiveness we extend to others should know no limits. Colossians 3:13

REMEDY OF UNFORGIVENESS: We all need to be open about what hurts us, rebuking those who sin against us, and forgiving the offender once they repent. Our relationship with God will be damaged if we refuse to pardon those who have offended us. Asking for God’s forgiveness for one’s own sins while withholding forgiveness from someone else is nothing but hypocrisy. We cannot possibly walk with God in true fellowship if we refuse to forgive others. Luke 17:3–4

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, give me a forgiving heart to be able to let go of those who may have deeply hurt me so that I will also obtain your forgiveness whenever I call upon you, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

REFLECTION: Matthew 18:21-22 KJV: “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
