TITLE: THE DANGER OF BEING ENVIOUS (PART 2)

KEY TEXT: Matthew 6:33 KJV: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Envy can blind us to the goodness of God and the blessings He has already given us. When we focus on what others have, we fail to recognize and appreciate what God has done in our own lives. The psalmist reminds us to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men. "O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever" (PSALMS 107:1).

Jesus warned His followers against coveting the possessions of others, teaching that life does not consist in the abundance of things. Envy can lead us to covet what belongs to others, but Jesus calls us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that all other things will be added to us. "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth" (LUKE 12:15).

Envy often stems from a lack of trust in God's plan for our lives. When we envy others, we question whether God is truly working all things together for our good. However, the Bible assures us that God has a perfect plan for each of us, and we can trust in His sovereignty and goodness. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God" (ROMANS 8:28)

PRAYER: Father, grant me the spirit of contentment and thanksgiving to appreciate you at every stage of my life, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Hebrews 13:5 KJV: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
