TITLE: YOUR SANCTIFICATION IS GOD’S WILL (PART 1)

KEY TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:3 KJV: "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication."

SANCTIFICATION DEFINED: Sanctification is God’s will for us. To “sanctify” something is to set it apart for special use; to sanctify a person is to make them holy. Sanctification is the second work of grace after salvation that involves inner washing or inner cleansing, clearing out the little foxes in our hearts. Sanctification gets rid of them completely. It is the washing of the heart, making it completely pure and changed. This is the will of God for us. John 17:17

SANCTIFICATION, GOD’S WILL: In our key text in 1 Thessalonians 4:3, we see Paul writing that “this is” (meaning sanctification) and this statement was intentionally inspired by the Spirit. He did not say that our sanctification “was” the will of God (past tense) or that it was only what God wanted during the Hebrew and Mosaic law dispensation. Rather, he emphasized that today, even now, for all believers, it “is” the will of God. 1 Peter 1:15-16

SANCTIFICATION IN THE HEART: Sanctification in one’s heart takes place through reading and association with the Word of God. The Word of God is a key ingredient for sanctification to begin its sure work. The Word provides cleansing and changes the minds and hearts of the reader through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We will delve more into the topic of sanctification in the second part, for this is the will of God to all believers. Romans 6:22

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, guide me daily to your word, and through your word sanctify and purify my heart wholly, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen. 

REFLECTION: John 17:17 KJV: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
