TITLE: THE KEY TO AN EFFECTIVE PRAYER LIFE

KEY TEXT: JOEL 2:12 KJV, “Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”

There are effective and ineffective prayers. This also means that there are effective and ineffective fastings. For your prayers to be effective, you must know the key. A house could have different locks for each door, and one key cannot open them all. If you are praying and there is no effect, then you are wasting your time. ACTS 3:19 KJV

The first thing to know is who you are praying to. In your mind, are you praying to the all-powerful God (the Creator and Ruler of all things) or an object? When Christ was teaching us how to pray in Matthew 6:9-10, He was telling us to pray in a certain manner, not how to repeat the same prayer. When you are addressing God as your Father, you must be humble before Him. You must also revere Him. Worship and praise are very imperative, and it should also be a habit. MATTHEW 6:7 KJV 

When praying to the Lord, it does not mean you should always give Him a list of your problems. I am not saying that you should not tell God about your problems, but do not let it be the primary reason you come to Him. What God wants from you is a relationship. He already knows all your needs before you tell Him. What He wants is to see you, not the list of your problems. Let wanting to be in a relationship with Him always be in your mind. MATTHEW 6:8  KJV 
 
PRAYER: O Lord, my God, have mercy on me for ever coming to you with my problems without there being a cordial relationship. I repent and ask for the grace to walk with you and know you intimately, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen. 

REFLECTION: “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (JOHN 15:5 KJV).
