TITLE: LET YOUR WAYS BE PLEASING TO GOD

Key Text: “Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more” (1 Thessalonians 4:1 KJV).  

IS YOUR LIFESTYLE PLEASING TO GOD? It is biblical and a good thing to pay tithes and give offerings to God in a holy Church of Christ, but it is evil in God’s sight when it is done at the expense of His Word (Ecclesiastes 5:1). The question that a believer who wants to enter God’s Kingdom needs to ask himself or herself constantly is: Are my ways pleasing to God? It is expected of every true believer to strive daily to live a lifestyle that pleases God. There is no way one could have God's presence or enter His Kingdom when his or her lifestyle opposes God’s ways. Jesus, in His Word, said that His Father never left Him because He always did things that pleased Him. John 8:29 KJV 

HOW DOES ONE PLEASE GOD? Most believers think that preaching, singing, evangelizing, and doing church activities makes God pleased with them. I am not disputing the fact that those things are very good for a child of God to do, but these should not be done to replace holy living and submitting completely to the Holy Spirit’s leadership to avoid carnality. One could be preaching, singing, etc., yet under the flesh’s influence. Remember, to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Hence, you must focus on spiritual things completely to win God’s heart. Romans 8:6 KJV 

WE CANNOT PLEASE GOD BY BEING DISOBEDIENT: Many believers are like King Saul, who gave the sacrifice of foolishness. Most Christians do not study or have faith in God’s Word, yet they think they are pleasing God (2 Timothy 2:15, Hebrews 1:6); they do not have the fear of God, yet they think they are right with Him (Psalm 147:11); they do not praise or worship God, yet they call themselves peculiar treasures in Christ (Hebrews 13:15-16); they do not love one another, but they still think that they are very close to God (John 15:17), etc. We must repent now and start living to please God before it is too late for us. 1 Samuel 15:20-23 KJV 

PRAYER: O Lord, my God, please have mercy on me for thinking that I was right with you and pleasing you, not knowing that my conduct has placed me far away from you. Have mercy on me. I repent of my evil ways and embrace the lifestyle that is governed by the Holy Spirit, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.  

REFLECTION: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2 KJV).
